HW3

“To demand that a person pee in a cup whenever you wish him to, without a documented reason to suspect that he has been using an illegal drug, is intolerable in our republic. You are saying to him, "I wonder if you are not behaving in a way that I approve of. Convince me that you indeed are".  " Alexander Shulgin.

One of my friends showed me this and we had debated on whether it is ethical for an employer to have random drug tests to see if employees are doing drugs on their own time.  What do you think?

  1. i personally dont have a problem with random drug testing just because to me it is stealing time if you show up to work too stoned out of your mind to function properly.

  2. idk, now the on your own time thing is different, thats like a only gettin a dwi if you personally cannot drive with the ammount of alcohol in your system, big problem, marijuana stays in your system for 30 days or better depending on your metabolism, cocain and pills, 3 days, i guess what they tell us is its better to do hard drugs because your less likely to fail a drug test because of timing than lighter drugs??

  4. Companies are justified in this to some degree. They are paying someone for their time and work. What type of drugs are included in this test? Marijuana, cocaine, or poppy seeds? There is a lot of debate on what is a real drug. Tobacco and alcohol are very serious drugs but are not illegal. They cause many health problems as well. Overall, the ends of getting what you pay for are justified by the means of drug testing.
